Invitation to the Ink-Slingers' Ball

Ink-Slingers all come out tonight
Ink-Slingers now come one come all
The Ink-Slinger's moon is shining bright
Ink-Slingers come to the Ink-Slingers' Ball
Ink-Slingers all come out tonight
Ink-Slingers come to the Ink-Slingers' Ball

Ink-Slingers write with pen and ink
Ink-Slingers type in computer files
Ink-slingers live in imagined worlds
Ink-Slingers all have awesome lives

We're quiet enough in the morning hours
We're quiet enough in the afternoon
Reserving our raconteurian powers
To write by the light of the Ink-Slinger's moon

Ink-slingers like to write and write
Ink-Slingers like (as we said) to write
If it happens to be a stormy night
We might type out a Word War or two in the hall

If it happens the sun is shining bright
You might think we'd have nothing to write at all
We are resting and saving ourselves to be right for the end of NaNo and the Ink-Slingers' Ball!

Ink-Slingers all come out tonight
Ink-Slingers now come one come all
The Ink-Slinger's moon is shining bright
Ink-Slingers come to the Ink-Slingers' Ball

Partly an experiment in emailing members, but mostly an invitation to AofE's very own online 'after party' for NaNoWriMo, the Ink-Slingers' Ball! Beginning at 0:00 on December 1st your local time, the Ball will run for the first few days of December and include music, dancing and general relaxation after the hectic month that was NaNoWriMo. It also serves as our 'end of year' event, celebrating all our achievements over 2011.

Throughout December, AofE will also be running 'The Writing Room', a kind of 'unofficial' NaNoFiMo with no goals except to finish that project that would otherwise be hanging over your head when the new year comes around. You can use it to finish your NaNoWriMo novel or to try to write 'the end' on something that you set aside earlier in the year.

Or to end the year on the ultimate high, why not dig through your archives and unearth the 'WIP-from-hell'? I know you've got one - everyone does. It's that story that you started (possibly many years ago) and thought was going to be your first awesome best-seller. Then it ate your soul. You dropped it in a drawer or the novel graveyard or a folder buried somewhere on your hard drive and promised yourself that you'd come back to it later...

So, these are your options for the 'writing room':
  1. start and finish a whole new novel/short story/whatever you like
  2. finish your NaNo novel
  3. finish a novel/short story/whatever you like from earlier in the year
  4. dig up the 'WIP-from-hell' and try to finish it
  5. edit a draft or finish an edit you started earlier this year

Like I said, the only goal is finishing. Whether it's a thousand words or a full 50k, what unites us in the Writing Room is a single desire: write 'the end' :).

See you there!

Siana
